The Benefits of Showing Off Your Workplace on Social Media

Social media can be a tricky business. As managers and owners, it can be difficult to change your mindset on using Facebook, Twitter or YouTube to showcase your business. Who would want to see my workplace, right?

Social media is being used for more than just friend to friend contact. We’ve spoken before about company culture and why it’s an essential ingredient for successful businesses. Sharing on social media allows you to extend this onto your customers and the public, too. This will help your business stand out and make people want to work with you. If you show a place that’s supportive, hardworking, fun and innovative, chances are customers will favour you. Prospective talent also will.

90% of all 18-29 year olds use social media. In fact, it’s one of the most effective ways to find work and fill job positions – taking the whole ‘it’s who you know’ concept online. Sharing interesting, desirable content on your channels is the quickest (and simplest) way to shape the way people see your business. It’s an extremely powerful tool.

It’s more than just products & services

Use social media to show the world more than just what you do. Let them see that new coffee machine and the happy face of your employee when he’s making it. What about that funny after work drinks photo? Give the public a glimpse into why your company is different.

Are there are thought-provoking pieces of content you’ve written or even simply read recently? Other people will probably find it interesting, too. By going beyond your products and services, you’ll help build trust in your brand and people will think of you in more than just the business sense. Relationships are one of the most important parts of business and social media needs to be thought of as another way to develop them.

Why not do ‘a week in the life’ series where you post interesting content (photos, videos, audio and articles). Open up the space for your customers and groups of people who are interested in your business to ask questions and give their feedback. What better way to grow your business than by talking directing to the people you’re serving?

Think outside of the box. Consider the environment around your office. Is there a nice park, a cool café or an interesting shop that your employees frequent? Do they spend time in the area before or after work? You could partner with other businesses in the area and showcase it. Show that you care about the sustainability and life of your wider environment.

Promote your workplace… to more than just your customers

By giving your people a glimpse of what life is like in your business, you’ll attract the right type of customers and talent. Transparency is key and people will respond to honesty and rawness. Don’t be afraid to show your company’s personality.

Connect with the millions of people online and spread the word.
